Transparency to you, our reader, is our top priority.

We believe everyone should be able to make decisions about their home with confidence. While our site doesn’t review every home products or services company in the market, we’re proud that our reviews and recommendations are objective, independent, straightforward — and free.

So how do we make money? Our content is free to you, the reader, because we may earn a commission when you click or make a purchase using our site. This may influence which products we review and write about (and where those products appear on the site), but it in no way affects our recommendations or advice, which are grounded in thousands of hours of independent research. We sometimes offer premium or additional placements on our website and in our marketing materials to our advertising partners but our partners cannot, and do not, pay us to guarantee favorable reviews of their products or services. Service fee

Blue Ribbon prefers to call their service fee a “copay,” and charges a nonrefundable $55 fee for any service visit.

Claims process

You can file a claim with Blue Ribbon by calling their hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once your claim is approved, they will schedule an appointment with one of their approved technicians within 24 hours. If they don’t have an approved technician available, you’re allowed to find your own service professional.

You can then invoice Blue Ribbon for the cost of the service minus the $55 copay. All repairs completed by Blue Ribbon service professionals are under additional warranty for 30 days. If the appliance or service fails after 30 days, you will be required to pay an additional $55 copay for a second repair or replacement.

Coverage length

After your plan kicks in, Blue Ribbon’s coverage actually lasts 14 months, as opposed to the usual 12-month contract duration. Their coverage will automatically renew unless you decide to cancel. If you pay for coverage but never have to use it for three years, your fourth year of coverage will be free.

Coverage exclusions

Blue Ribbon reserves the right to exclude coverage if your appliance or system is not properly maintained or installed. However, they offer a home help section on their website to assist you with issues that aren’t covered by the company—this includes a home systems annual maintenance checklist, maintenance information and servicing tips, basic troubleshooting, average repair and replacements costs, and a link to Colorado’s official website regarding energy management and efficiency.

Years in business

Blue Ribbon was founded in 1985. They have been in business for 32 years.

Better Business Bureau rating

The BBB gives Blue Ribbon an A+ rating based on the following factors:

  • Number of complaints filed with BBB against the business
  • The size of the business
  • If complaints have been filed, whether in BBB’s opinion the business appropriately responded to them
  • If complaints have been filed, whether in BBB’s opinion the business resolved the complaints in a timely manner to the customer’s satisfaction
  • If complaints have been filed, whether in BBB’s opinion the business made a good faith effort to resolve complaints, even if the customer was not satisfied with the resolution
  • If complaints have been filed, whether in BBB’s opinion the business failed to resolve the underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints
  • The age of resolved complaints—older resolved complaints have less of an impact on the rating than newer complaints

In addition to an A+ rating, Blue Ribbon is a BBB-accredited business.

Blue Ribbon customer reviews

There are Blue Ribbon reviews across several websites and this provider is one of the few home warranty companies that consistently responds to their reviews on all platforms. The BBB lists this review from a customer named Paul:

“My furnace motor stopped working on a weekend. I called and left a message for the on-call rep. They responded quickly and set up a service contractor to look at my furnace the following Tuesday (busy season for HVAC people). They were able to repair my furnace that day and paperwork was handled by the Blue Ribbon people. I appreciate the quick response and professionalism of the warranty people as well as the service people they sent.”
