Blue Ribbon Home Warranty is a home warranty company that offers service only in Colorado. In fact, it’s been the only locally owned and operated home warranty company in the state of Colorado since its founding in 1985.

Blue Ribbon offers three plans—Silver, Gold, and Platinum—for an average cost of $26.79–$56.79 a month for 14 months. Additionally, Blue Ribbon offers optional coverage on things such as pools, hot tubs, roof leaks, septic tanks, and more.
Coverage for condos and townhomes tends to be around $100 less than the single-family plan at every coverage level.
Silver plan: $26.79 per month ($321.48 per year). This plan covers 17 systems and appliances. It does not include central air conditioning.
Gold plan: $33.93 per month ($407.16 per year). This plan covers everything under the Silver plan, plus several other key systems and appliances, such as central A/C and your washer and dryer.
Platinum plan: $56.79 per month ($681.48 per year). This is the most comprehensive coverage plan from Blue Ribbon. It includes all systems and appliances from the Silver and Gold plans, in addition to the following:
Optional Coverage / Additional Items: In addition to Blue Ribbons’s home warranty plans, the company also offers coverage for the following items. If you sign up for the Platinum plan, three of these items will be included.
Note: All Blue Ribbon home warranty plans have a $65 service fee. This means that every time a contractor comes to your house to address a claim, you’ll be paying them a $65 fee.

Blue Ribbon provides information on their site as well as their sample contract for covered items. We’ve provided the information for the most important systems and appliances below:
Blue Ribbon covers most components of a refrigerator, including the ice maker and dispenser, which many home warranty companies do not cover. Here are the refrigerator elements not covered in a Blue Ribbon plan: refrigerant and refrigerant recapture, appliance knobs and handles, lights, tracks, removable baskets, springs and hinges, multimedia displays, and food spoilage.
Similar to refrigerators, most parts and components of ovens, stoves, and ranges are covered. These are the exclusions: clocks or self-cleaning mechanisms (unless it affects the function of the oven), timers, rotisserie, meat probes, interior lining, door glass, sensi-heat burners, springs, and hinges.
Clothes washer and dryer
All mechanical parts of a washer and dryer are covered under Blue Ribbon, with the exception of the following items: plastic mini-tubs, soap dispensers, filter screens, knobs, dials, springs and hinges, venting or lint screens, and damage to clothing.
Here’s what’s covered under Blue Ribbon electrical coverage: Main panel, sub panels, breakers, switches, outlets, wiring, ground fault interrupters, junction boxes, exhaust fans, ceiling fans (excludes remote transmitter and light kits), doorbells, and garage door openers.
Some items that aren’t included are lighting fixtures, attic fans, intercoms, low voltage lighting controls, and panels that have lost their UL listing.
Here’s what’s covered: Leaks or breaks in water, waste, vent or gas lines, angle stops, risers, gate valves, shower and tub valves, toilet mechanisms, wax ring seal, stoppage in interior drain, waste and vent lines, permanently installed sump pumps, built-in bathtub whirlpool (drain and fill) motor and pump assemblies, garbage disposal and water heater.
Blue Ribbon doesn’t cover plumbing fixtures (faucets, sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, enclosures and base pans), urinals, power flush mechanisms, instant water dispensers, caulking and grouting, stoppages in incoming water lines, or water flow restriction caused by chemical or excessive mineral deposits. Blue Ribbon covers one cooling system under its Gold and Platinum plans. The parts protected include the compressors, condensers, motors, thermostats, and refrigerant leaks. Note: coverage is contingent on Blue Ribbon approving an inspection report of the unit.
Here are a few items that are excluded from air conditioning coverage: Refrigerant and refrigerant recapture, conversion, condenser casings, roof jacks, stands, registers, filters, electronic air cleaners, gas air conditioners, and window and wall units that aren’t ducted.
Blue Ribbon offers a 14-month contract with coverage beginning when payment is received, a much quicker turnaround than the industry average of 30 days. You can renew your contract at the end of the coverage term.
Note: You may cancel your plan within 10 days of starting coverage, as long as you’ve given written notice. If you cancel your plan before your contract is up, a prorated refund will be provided.
Blue Ribbon reserves the right to exclude coverage if your appliance or system is not properly maintained or installed. However, they offer a home help section on their website to assist you with issues that aren’t covered by the company—this includes a home systems annual maintenance checklist, maintenance information and servicing tips, basic troubleshooting, average repair and replacements costs, and a link to Colorado’s official website regarding energy management and efficiency.

Blue Ribbon Home Warranty is a great option if you live in Colorado. In our opinion, its limited nationwide availability is the only real downside for the company. It provides good coverage with a variety of plans at a reasonable cost. If you’re looking for a home warranty company in Colorado, Blue Ribbon should be a serious contender for you.
As mentioned, the company offers three different plans that all fall in line with or below the industry average. The only drawback regarding coverage is that washers, dryers, and air conditioning aren’t covered under the basic plan (the Silver plan). However, the Silver plan covers 17 systems and appliances, which is pretty comprehensive for a basic plan. The Platinum plan, while roughly $30 more a month, provides maximum coverage and even gives customers the choice of additional coverage for items such as a roof, pool, or sump pump.
When it comes to trustworthiness and customer service, Blue Ribbon scored high marks. The company has been in business for 34 years and is an A+ accredited business on the Better Business Bureau (BBB)—well above many competitors ratings. Additionally, the customer service line is available 24/7/365 and the company guarantees that a service provider will contact you within 24 hours of filing a claim.
Overall, Blue Ribbon Home Warranty provides great coverage with reasonable rates and has quick turnaround on claims. They’re one of our highest-rated home warranty companies in the industry and we’d recommend them more if they offered coverage outside of only Colorado.
