When you purchase an item for your home, it’s normal to expect that it will work the way that it’s intended. But what if it doesn’t? Are you stuck with a broken product?
Manufacturers, such as Honeywell, provide limited warranties so that customers are off the hook for repairs or replacements needed due to defective products, whether from the materials or workmanship.
Honeywell warranties are available for their wide selection of products and solutions, including those for your home. House Method explains what the Honeywell warranty includes, as well as why a home warranty provides an advantage beyond what a manufacturer offers. Honeywell International, Inc. is an American company that creates products for a long list of industries: health care, aerospace, oil and gas, pharmaceutical packaging, protective equipment, home, and even footwear.
Their products are just as varied. In 2017, a few of their top innovations were a sonic boom mitigation, theft-resistant bag, virtual reality steering, turbochargers, and a monitored DIY home security system.
Despite Honeywell’s remarkable ingenuity, it’s normal for a product to not be completely free of defects. A Honeywell warranty takes care of some of these repairs and replacements. Their coverage is different across industries, but most of the warranty periods range between 90 days and five years.
Honeywell Productivity and Workflow Solutions standard warranty periods can be found in their online warranty matrix.
Honeywell Environmental and Energy Solutions warranty lengths vary based on the specific product, and they range from 12 months to 60 months.
Honeywell Security has several different warranties for their intrusion, video surveillance, access control, vindicator, and cable and custom electronics products.
A few examples of Honeywell Home warranty periods include:
Products under the Honeywell Home warranty are covered starting on the date of purchase. Warranties from other departments start the warranty on the date of purchase, installation, shipment, or manufacture. If there is a defect in the workmanship or material—under normal use and service—Honeywell determines whether it should be repaired or replaced (not the customer).
If you have a defective product, you can either return it to where you purchased it or call Honeywell Customer Care or Honeywell’s Customer Service for that department. When you call, request a Repair Maintenance Authorization (RMA) number. Also, have your customer ID, product’s type, a brief description of the issue, and your serial number, date code, and/or proof-of-purchase when you call.
Along with removal or installations costs, a limited Honeywell warranty doesn’t cover repairs or replacements in certain situations, such as:
Warranty periods are different across products and models. The best way to know your warranty for sure is to check your owner’s manual. If you don’t have your owner’s manual, you can register your product and find it online.
Most manufacturers encourage you to register your product through a short process called warranty registration. Some manufacturers provide extra warranty benefits if you register your product. If you’re lucky, it’s additional coverage, but usually it’s just a way for the company to know more about their customers, alert you of any recalls, or sell you extended warranties. Legally, manufacturers can’t require you to register your product—it’s completely optional.
Some product registrations also require the serial number, which is located in various places on different types of products.
Honeywell has been making products for over 100 years. When it comes to reliability, you’re going to find mixed reviews simply due to the volume of products.
We read reviews across sites and compiled some of the most common complaints for Honeywell Home products.
For Honeywell air purifier issues, customers noted these problems:
Customers had these issues with Honeywell dehumidifiers:
For Honeywell water leak sensors, customers complain that the unit frequently goes offline, preventing them from receiving notifications. There are also several complaints about the app software.
If your product is still under its Honeywell warranty, the manufacturer will repair or replace it. However, many customers didn’t find the warranty helpful and said they experienced poor customer service and expensive labor costs.
It’s likely you purchased a Honeywell product because you want your home to feel safer and more comfortable—whether through warmer, cooler, dryer, or more humid air, or a security camera or sensors to monitor potential danger. You like the peace of mind that comes with these products.
Honeywell warranties only last a few years, so once they’re expired, it’s up to you to cover the repair cost or to replace the item. The same is true for your home appliances and systems, whether they’re from GE, Samsung, Maytag, or any other manufacturer. In fact, these appliances can be more expensive to repair or replace than your Honeywell products. A water heater alone—definitely important for comfort—costs an average of over $1,000 to replace.
A home warranty is an effective way to protect your home and your wallet. These service contracts are designed to offset repair and replacement costs, so you only pay a fraction of what they would normally run you. Repairs and replacements from regular use are covered, too, as opposed to only coverage for defects in a manufacturer warranty.
As an example, let’s look at a Honeywell product that’s covered under a home warranty: ceiling fans.
Most Honeywell ceiling fans cost between $80 and $180. In general, the average cost to repair a ceiling fan is $135, and a replacement could be about the same price.
With a home warranty, premiums are usually between $25 and $67 a month. With each claim, you’ll pay about $75 for a service fee. If you pay a $47 premium and $75 service fee, you’ve already saved money on your ceiling fan repair. Apply this same concept to a dishwasher replacement—an average of $1,000—and you can see how much your potential savings can be.
Like we’ve said, a home warranty can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, if a major home appliance or system breaks down due to normal wear and tear. It can also be a great financial tool to safeguard your home against expensive repairs for aging appliances and home systems. A big difference between a Honeywell warranty or any manufacturer’s warranty and a home warranty is that the latter covers old items, too. This means that items outside of the manufacturer’s warranty are covered.
Home warranties are a popular way to avoid costly, unexpected home repair bills. According to Warranty Week, consumers spent over $2 billion in home warranties in 2016, making home warranties “an essential part of a sales transaction in some states.” In that same year, home warranty providers reportedly spent $589 million on warranty claims, indicating that customers are increasingly turning to home warranties to cover repair or replacement costs.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners recommends considering purchasing a home warranty if you are buying an existing home or moving into a new home. Additionally, if your appliances are aging or you want to simplify home maintenance, a home warranty could be a smart investment.
A home warranty can also increase your home’s marketability when selling. A 2014 study by the Service Contract Industry Council found that homes sold for an average $2,300 more and 11 days faster than homes without a warranty plan.
House Method researches and reviews the best home warranty providers, so you don’t have to do all the work yourself. Choice Home Warranty is our top recommendation.
