Lightweight and easy to maneuver, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vacuum is as convenient as it is effective. It has terrific suction power that works best on hard floors but also effectively removes dirt and debris from low-pile and high-pile carpet. Though its size makes it easier to use, it limits its ability to quickly suction large items, like Cheerios or chips. To prevent blockages, our testers had to advance slowly over larger pieces of debris.
This handheld vacuum is an auxiliary vacuum designed to clean small messes. It will become clogged if you attempt to use it on large messes without allowing the items to be fully suctioned into the canister.
Engineered with a 14V lithium ion battery, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vacuum is a cordless hand vac that can operate for up to 20 minutes between charges. It has one power setting that can be used on multiple surfaces and is equipped with three attachment tools for all-around cleaning.
|Dust canister||0.18 gallons|
Though this handheld vacuum can be assembled in under a minute, it must be completely charged for eight hours before you can take it for its first test drive. (Note: the batteries only take five hours to charge after the initial charge.) Once the batteries are charged, you can assemble your Bissell hand vacuum by inserting the motorized brush into the hand vac nozzle until it clicks into place. You can swap out the motorized brush for the crevice or upholstery tools by following these steps:
If you share your home with some furry friends, you probably find yourself vacuuming more than the average person. The pet-hair removing tools that come with this vacuum are about to make your life—and vacuuming— a whole lot easier. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vacuum comes with a crevice tool, upholstery tool, and motorized brush roll tool.
The crevice tool is a long, thin extension piece that is perfect for getting crumbs and dirt out of hard-to-reach areas like your car seats and stair creases. Designed with pet owners in mind, the upholstery tool lifts and suctions both long and short hair from your furniture. The motorized brush roll tool is arguably the most used tool and helps remove embedded hair, dirt, and dust from any surface.
The compact size of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vacuum means no mess is out of reach but that doesn’t mean you have to touch it. To empty the vacuum canister, simply detach it from the handpiece using the eject button, remove the filter piece, and turn the canister upside down to release the contents.
Inside the dirt canister is a three-part filter composed of a mesh filter frame, foam filter, and washable filter cup. For optimal filtration, we suggest you gently wash the filter cup after heavy use.
We performed six different tests that measured suction power, maneuverability, and mobility. For our suction tests, we tested Cheerios, kitty litter, coffee grounds, and pet hair.
When testing this vacuum’s suction power on hard floors, we used the hand vac with and without the motorized brush tool to determine which setup was most effective. We found that the hand vac more successfully picked up messes on hard floors without the attachment piece. Without the attachment, the vacuum was able to successfully pick up Cheerios, kitty litter, coffee grounds, and pet hair in less than two passes. With the attachment, the vacuum sprayed the kitty litter all over the place, making a bigger mess than what we initially started out with.
To avoid clogging the vacuum, we had to go over larger messes like the Cheerios and kitty litter more slowly than we typically do for this test. We found that as long as we didn’t use the motorized brush and gave the handheld vacuum enough time to suction the materials through its small opening, we could remove debris in the first couple of passes.
When using the attachment head on high-pile carpet, the Cheerios got stuck in the motorized brush. While we don’t recommend using this attachment on more coarse materials, it is more effective on fine messes like coffee grounds. Although the attachment was better at picking up coffee grounds, it was by no means great. Many of the grounds were pushed into the carpet fibers making them even more difficult to remove. This same issue arose during the kitty litter test. Pet hair was much easier to remove. The Bissell handheld was able to pick up the fur in fewer than three passes with the attachment.
Similar to the high-pile carpet test, the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vac spread the kitty litter and coffee grounds into the carpet instead of picking them up. Having learned that the motorized brush doesn’t fair well with Cheerios, we didn’t use any attachments and were easily able to suction the Cheerios and pet hair in a couple of passes.
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser’s compact size make maneuvering around and under furniture a breeze. The only thing that could make cleaning hard-to-reach areas easier would be an extension hose. If you’re looking to clean narrow areas like the dashboard of your car, we recommend taking a look at the Dyson V7 Car + Boat handheld vacuum.
No need for a strong wrist or full body push. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld vacuum easily moves across hard and carpeted surfaces.
The average vacuum measures between 78–80 decibels, but the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld isn’t your average vacuum. Just like its size, its noise level is lower than most. We found the hand vac to have an average noise of 74.6 decibels or about as loud as your toilet flushing.
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser handheld vacuum offers a one-year limited warranty.

“Great handheld vacuum. I bought this to use in my car and it’s phenomenal. I’ve tried several other well-known brands and either the suction was weak or I had to make several passes to clean. The Bissell picks up dirt with one pass and the suction is strong.” — Amazon review
“I love this powerful little hand vac. I use it everyday on my stairs, comforter, around the litter box, hard to reach area around the toilet and my couch. Multiple attachments make it super easy to go between surfaces. I’m going to buy another one for my car!” — Amazon review
