A pet insurance quote is important, but it’s also a good idea to know what each of these policies covers so that you can accurately compare one to another. Proper health care for your pet means peace of mind, but you first need to know what your pet insurance covers.
It’s one thing to pay for an insurance policy; it’s another to have your claims denied. Claims processing times, customer service, and ratings from other pet owners are all great ways to tell if a pet insurance policy is going to be reliable.
Some pet health insurance offers things like unlimited coverage caps, no deductible for the first year, or something that covers both cats and dogs. Depending on your individual situation, it could be worth it to choose one company over another to help make these policies worth it.
Fees like co-pays, coinsurance, and even non-covered expenses should all be considered before signing up for this policy for your furry friend. If you find out that it’s an accident-only plan or dental illness isn’t included, at least know what this will cost you from a fees perspective.
Unfortunately, some pet owners wait until their pets have a condition before looking into a pet insurance plan. This is a bit of a problem as some pre-existing conditions may be excluded from the plan. In addition, there is typically a waiting period before these care plans kick in, and they can be several months long at times.
Take a look at how the plan can change if your pet develops a condition while the policy is in place. If they get sick the next year, they could be removed from the policy simply because that condition is too expensive to treat. See what the renewable benefits are and if there are any exclusions.
Always check to ensure that the facility where you choose to get veterinary care for your pet is covered. Sometimes certain doctors will not work with a particular plan, and you may have to change vets.
Lemonade is a relatively new insurance provider with about 6 years in the industry. However, in the last few years, Lemonade has expanded its option and created a pet insurance plan that has very competitive, affordable monthly premiums.
Lemonade has special plans for young puppies and kittens to ease the financial burden of getting a new pet. In addition, dealing with the initial signup for Lemonade pet insurance is painless. The online quoting system works almost entirely on AI, and you can have your policy locked in after just a few minutes.
The Lemonade pet insurance policies start at around $15 for a dog and $11 for a cat. The more advanced you make the policy, the closer it will get to $50 per month. Be aware that, like all pet insurance companies, Lemonade will have some exclusions, including preexisting conditions, dental care, and behavioral treatments.

Wagmo pet insurance is best known for basic wellness. As a prudent pet parent, you likely are well aware that even the basic wellness appointments at your local vet can get quite costly. If you are mostly worried about covering checkups and ensuring your policy is handled with organization and speed, Wagmo is a great choice.
This policy has no upper age limits, so even if your furry family member is getting older, Wagmo has you covered. Wagmo also offers some of the highest reimbursement rates in the industry.
Wagmo plans are a bit less customizable from a pricing standpoint than we saw with Spot. The lower their policies start around $20, the higher coverage options can get closer to $60. Overall the plan includes quite a bit when you pay for the higher-tier coverage. However, vitamins, dental surgeries, and prescription food will not be part of the plan.
