Pros and Cons of Aptive Environmental

Pros Cons
  • Has a pest control library so you can identify which pests you may have
  • 24/7 customer service
  • Eco-friendly pesticides
  • Ambassador and donor to malaria control organization Nothing But Nets
  • Aptive doesn’t provide pest control services for termites or bed bugs
  • Only one pest control plan available

Aptive Environmental Services

Aptive Environmental has only one pest control service plan, which makes signing up for the service simple (although the lack of plan options can also be restrictive if you’re looking to build your own plan). Keep in mind this plan does not cover protection from termites or bed bugs, and it does not eliminate existing termites or bed bugs. It can, however, take care of most troublesome pest infestations you may encounter, including ants, cockroaches, and more.

Aptive provides technician support between scheduled pest control visits if you encounter problems before the next treatment. These extra visits come at no additional cost because any of these unscheduled visits are part of the Aptive pest-control plan customer satisfaction guarantee.

Four Seasons Protection Plan

Aptive Environmental’s Four Seasons Protection Plan offers subscribers year-round protection against household and outdoor pests, including cockroaches, spiders, rodents, fleas, crickets, silverfish, ants, stinging insects, and other pests that might pop up during certain times of the year, like mosquitoes and millipedes. One thing that sets Aptive Environmental apart from other pest control companies is that in between quarterly services, technicians will come to your home free of charge if you report any growth in pest population or other issues arise before the next scheduled visit. Here are a few more features you’ll enjoy when you sign up for Aptive’s Four Seasons plan.

  • First visit: During the Aptive service technicians’ first visit, they will do a full inspection of your property, including in your house, around the house, and in your yard to determine the best products for you and which pests your property may attract.
  • Convenience: One month after the initial visit and treatment, Aptive technicians will stamp out any remaining pests which survived the first treatment. You don’t have to be home for this to occur, so you don’t have to plan around the technicians’ schedules.
  • Quarterly treatments: Thereafter, Aptive technicians will visit your home quarterly to provide pest control services for prevention and extermination. This is why the plan is called the Four Seasons Protection Plan — different seasons, different pests, the same comprehensive coverage.
  • Eco-friendly: Aptive’s pest control products are made from the chrysanthemum flower, which naturally produces a pesticide called pyrethrin. In 2019, Ladders rated Aptive Environmental number one on its list of top ten environmentally friendly companies in the U.S.

One reason for Aptive Environmental’s initial pesticide distribution and follow-up appointment one month later is because pyrethrin does not eliminate insect or arthropod eggs — this is why returning a month later gives the eggs time to hatch and the technicians can use their environmentally safe pesticide to kill the hatched pests. Because Aptive does not have a way to eliminate eggs that is safe for the environment, they do this one-month follow-up job instead of applying a single harsh treatment. This can benefit anyone looking for a more natural way to protect your property.

Aptive Environmental Availability and Locations

Aptive was founded in Utah in 2015. After becoming accredited by the BBB, Aptive became one of the fastest-growing companies in the country, especially in the pest control arena. Aptive’s Four Seasons Protection Plan is available in 28 states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Wisconsin

Within the aforementioned states, Aptive has offices in nearly 5,000 cities across the country. Although the company’s reach is not as widely spread as other older pest control companies, Aptive works hard to give you the best service possible where you are, be that in Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Austin, Salt Lake City, Portland, or many other metropolitan or suburban areas.

When requesting a quote on the Aptive website, the contact form requires your ZIP Code, that way you can tell before you even connect with a service provider whether Aptive is located in your area or not. If Aptive isn’t in a city near you, chances are they will be soon — the company is spreading all over the country and opening offices in more cities every year.

Aptive Environmental Cost Breakdown

Like most pest control services, Aptive’s Four Seasons Protection Plan provides spraying and pest elimination both inside the home and outside, including the home’s outdoor perimeter and all across your yard. Since there is only one service plan, the quoting process is simple. It’s based on the square footage of the inspected area and what types of pests need extermination.

The annual cost that Aptive customers usually pay for a 2,000-square foot property is anywhere between $550 and $630. The specific price you’ll pay will vary depending on the state you live in and how extensive your pest problem is. For example, flea and tick control plans can range anywhere from $200 to $600, depending on the area that needs to be covered.

With this in mind, you can break down the annual cost into quarterly or even monthly amounts. For example, if your Aptive pest control service costs $600 per year, that is $150 each quarter or $50 per month. You can get even more affordable plans if you simply require outside spraying or if the services are tailored more for prevention than extermination.

Scheduling an Inspection with Aptive Environmental

The first step to getting Aptive to check out your property is to schedule an appointment with one of their sales representatives. You can speak with this person through a contact request form on the home page or by calling the company phone number (844) 573.7111.

The information required from you on the contact request form is the following:

  • Your name
  • Your email
  • Your phone number
  • Your ZIP Code
  • Your current pest problem (wasps, spiders, ants, mice, etc.)

Once you schedule an appointment date that works for you, you can discuss your pest problems and general pest control with the service technician who comes to your home. You can then discuss costs and particulars about when the treatments will take place and how many you will need, both for eradication and prevention.

Aptive Environmental Customer Reviews

To get the best treatment plan for your property, you’ll need to look at each company’s customer reviews and star ratings from multiple third-party sources. If this is your first time booking a pest control service, doing your due diligence can ensure that you don’t find yourself involved in a scam or paying more money than you need to for treatments.

Online reviews of Aptive Environmental are overall negative. While homeowners who had a positive experience with Aptive’s team said their service pro was well-trained and professional, many users complained that Aptive’s contracts intentionally make information and cancellation fees difficult to find.

I’ve read so many mixed reviews online that I’m almost waiting for a problem. However, everything has been first rate. The initial assessment and service went well. We saw an immediate decline in mosquitoes, which was my priority. After some rain and hot days, I called them back out because I had seen more mosquito activity, which I fully expected, and they did not hesitate to schedule a technician for the next day.Leah G

I stupidly bought what I thought was a one time trial service for around 50 dollars from a door to door sales man.  I received no receipt or contact.  I later received a text for a subscription fee, with no instructions on how to pay the bill.  I asked to see a contract. I was sent a contact with my forged signature. I texted an Aptive rep that I never saw that contract and  that my signature was forged. I received no more communication from Aptive, but got a letter from a collections agency asking for $140.00. Marcus R.

FAQs for Aptive Environmental

Is Aptive a legit company?

Aptive is accredited with the Better Business Bureau and has an A- grade, so the business has been vetted and examined to make sure it is following its core values of effective pest control, environmental safety, and community enrichment.

Is Aptive pet safe?

Because Aptive Environmental employs completely organic chemicals in its treatment plans, it is absolutely pet safe (and human safe too). It only harms unwanted pests without harming animals or plants. Aptive Environmental treatments are also done outside the house so that there is minimal chemical contact between you and your family and the pest control materials.

Does Aptive get rid of mosquitoes?

According to regional concerns and mosquito population, yes, Aptive has tailored its comprehensive pest control plans to include mosquito control. This is especially crucial in Southern states and areas next to large bodies of water. As of 2021, mosquitoes are officially included in Aptive’s list of common household pests.

Is Aptive worth it?

Chances are that the Aptive salesperson you interact with will be polite, competent, and friendly. Aptive has a reputation for having capable and personable customer service. Some customers have said that Aptive technicians and salespeople can use aggressive and pushy sales tactics. Still, overall, the rating for Aptive’s environmentally safe products and pest control services wins the day and makes Aptive one of the top-rated pest control companies in North America. It also has an A- rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Final Thoughts

Aptive Environmental is a nationwide pest control service provider that can offer you a comprehensive “set it and forget it” plan for your property. While the service doesn’t protect against some common pests that other companies include with their packages (like bed bugs), the natural pest control products they use can make up for this if you live in an area where excluded pests are not a concern. Be sure to thoroughly read your contract before you sign, as some Aptive customers have reported non transparent pricing.
