House Method created this American Home Protect review to help you better understand the benefits, pricing, and plans of the company. Below, you’ll find an overview of American Home Protect, a comparison of how the company stacks up against other home warranty providers, and our recommendation for the best home warranty.
American Home Protect lists just one coverage plan, the Premiere Coverage Plan, and offers a variety or optional add-ons such as a freestanding freezer, pool, and plumbing.
Here’s everything included under the Premiere Coverage Plan:
Here are the optional add-ons provided by American Home Protect:
The American Home Protect online quote form failed to submit multiple times when we attempted to receive a quote or sample contract, and we couldn’t find a sample contract on American Home Protect’s website. While we can’t determine the coverage length with certainty, it’s likely that American Home Protect follows the model of other home warranty providers with 12-month contract terms.
Similar to coverage terms, coverage limits are not clearly communicated on the American Home Protect website. The company recommends looking at the plans delivered to you by a representative after your online quote request or calling 1-877-407-3820 to get more information about what is and isn’t covered, as well as coverage limits. Your unique contract will clarify specific coverage, exclusions, and limitations.
Note: Pricing for American Home Protect home warranty plans is not available online.
American Home Protect home warranty customers have two options for submitting a claim. Once the claim has been submitted, an approved and accredited local repair provider will be assigned to you. You’ll be asked to pay a small, predetermined service fee for the visit, as well as any repair or replacement costs that exceed the appliance or system’s coverage limit as stated in your American Home Protect contract.
To submit a claim and request service from American Home Protect, customers can:
American Home Protect is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has a C+ rating from the BBB. The C+ BBB rating is attributed to 151 complaints filed against the business and the length of time the business takes to contact BBB reviewers who publish complaints.
Reviews from customers on BBB paint a cloudy picture of the company’s customer service and marketing tactics, with several reviews labeling the company’s services as a scam. Here are a few customer reviews below:
“This [company’s] marketing is misleading. I received their letter with the message, ‘Potential Lapse of Warranty Coverage,’ [and] I discovered when I went through my files to get my account number that I realized that this is not even the name of the company that I use, but it is similar in name. It was only then that I found the disclosure at the bottom of the page. “Not all customers have previous coverage.” And to top it off today, I got a 2nd letter marked in red like as past due would be. It is very misleading.” — Phillip on 5/20/2020
“Garbage company. Company tries to mislead people by sending them letters that resemble late notices.” — Jeff L. on 4/28/2020
Some individuals who recently purchased a home describe receiving a pink letter from American Home Protect, LLC, with a warning about a potential lapse in warranty coverage. Frustrated reviewers comment that the warranty is easy to opt in to and extremely difficult to cancel. These marketing tactics should be a red flag for homeowners in the market for home warranty service.
A photograph of this pink letter is available from a post on American Home Protect’s Facebook Page from J. Travis Smith on October 18, 2019. Smith comments that after receiving the letter in the mail, he contacted the company to inform them that his home was still under construction, meaning that it was impossible that the contents of the letter were valid. The representative hung up on him.

Because American Home Protect isn’t a trustworthy home warranty company, we encourage you to look at other home warranty companies that don’t take advantage of their customers. Comparing the home warranty companies below.
Unexpected repairs and replacements to appliances and systems can cost hundreds of dollars and be an unexpected expense on an already tight budget. A home warranty can cover the cost of expensive repairs and replacements and prevent you from paying out-of-pocket costs. Additionally, the stress of finding a reasonably priced technician can be avoided by signing up for home warranty coverage.
Home warranty plans are service contracts that provide peace of mind and cover the repairs or replacement of home systems and appliances that break down due to normal wear and tear. Customers under contract with a home warranty provider simply call the provider when a covered item breaks down, and the company will schedule a service technician to fix the issue in your home.
American Home Protect offers basic coverage for homeowners, but there’s limited information on pricing and coverage details. Additionally, American Home Protect states that it’s a “trusted industry leader,” but this claim has been challenged by third-party customer review sites like the BBB. If you want coverage you can trust, we recommend signing up for an American Home Shield or Choice Home Warranty plan.
The following appliances and systems are covered under an American Home Protect plan:
Optional add-ons are also available for customers and include a freestanding freezer, freestanding ice maker, spa equipment, swimming pool, plumbing, and more.
