Vivint Smart Home products and services

If you’re a homeowner, remote worker, frequent traveler, parent, pet owner, or part of a military family, then Vivint home solutions is a good option. Whether you want to be able to adjust the house temperature without getting up from your desk, set up an outdoor camera to monitor who comes and goes from your home, or make sure that your family is safe while you’re away, then Vivint has you covered.

Vivint offers dozens of high-quality products, many of which are designed and created in-house to ensure the highest technology is used. Before we explore the different package options, we want to give you an overview of some of the products and services offered. Here’s what you can expect from Vivint.

Security and home automation services

From indoor and outdoor security cameras to smart locks and 24/7 monitoring, Vivint makes sure that your entire home is protected. These are some of Vivint’s best security products:

  • Smart Sensors—Have protection against intruders through motion, door, and window sensors. The product is 100% wireless and battery operated, but what makes this product unique is its ability to update your thermostat if you’re out of town. This comes with most Vivint packages.
  • Ping Camera—Enjoy a two-way connection and quick access to your family members with this indoor camera. Built with infrared night vision, a wide-angle lens, and a 10x zoom, this camera works day and night to track any activity. Vivint added the unique feature Smart Clips, which creates 20-second images that are saved for 14 days.
  • Kwikset Smart Locks—With smart locks, you can turn off the lights, adjust the temp, arm your security system, and, of course, lock the doors—all in one touch. Carrying keys can become a thing of the past. You can set rules (lights off and doors locked at a certain time), and make changes through voice control and mobile, even if you’re not home.
  • Flood/Freeze/Heat Sensor—This sensor can help protect your home in case of a weather emergency or a home fire. As soon as your basement starts flooding, or as soon as a fire begins, the sensor will alert you, giving you time to act. This tiny product actually monitors temperatures and recognizes when there’s a significant, unpredicted rise or fall in temps. This is especially relevant if you’re on vacation or away for a work trip, and no one is home to notice the emergency.
  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors—The smoke alarm is wireless, battery-operated, and built with photoelectric sensors to catch a fire or detect smoke long before it spreads throughout your home. You don’t have to wonder if the battery’s low either, since it sends an alert to your control panel and phone app. You can even have your smart home unlock the doors should the alarm go off.
  • Lamp Module—This feature will allow you to adjust the mood of a room or dim the lights prior to bedtime.
  • Element Thermostat—Climate can be controlled and programmed with this Vivint-designed product. Intelligent technology has been used to create a digital thermostat that’s accessible and adjustable by Vivint’s control panel and app. The thermostat costs $149.99 on its own and can be added to your package.

Vivint has also partnered with Nest to offer voice control through Google Home. Lock the doors, change the temperatures, and turn off the lights, all hands-free.

According to Vivint customer Lindsey, “Vivint stays on top of everything, no matter if it’s a glass break, motion detector, or smoke detectors! They have us on the phone or at the panel in seconds making sure we are OK! I couldn’t imagine having a different security system!”

Vivint Smart Home security packages

Vivint offers various customizable home security packages. From surveillance and security to home automation, you deserve a smarter, safer home. Package options include:

  • Smart Control—For safety, surveillance, and home automation, this is a great option. It includes 22 products, but additional products can be added to make your home smarter.
  • Smart Complete—Like Smart Control, this package includes 22 safety and home automation services and products. The difference between this package and Smart Control is that it includes the Vivint Ping Camera and Vivint Outdoor Camera, as well as has a different number of Kwikset Smart Locks.
  • Smart Entry—This package has 15 products included, all intended to help you monitor who comes and goes.
  • Safety & Security—Safety is the first priority here, so the 15 products included in this package focus on detection and protection, not necessarily surveillance.
  • Surveillance—With security cameras and various other products, you can make the most of your sensors to track any activity that occurs inside and outside of the home.
  • Smart Energy—To save on utilities, this package focuses on the essential energy-saving products such as the Element Thermostat and Kwikset Smart Lock.

With every package, you get the Vivint Smart Hub™ and Vivint Smart Home app (previously called Sky app), which is available on both iPhone and Android, and is free to download. The app is highly ranked and easy to use. As long as you’re connected to WiFi, you can control your home from afar and make adjustments to settings and notifications through your phone.

Professional monitoring

With both Vivint Smart Home and Vivint Solar, you get the benefit of having 24/7 professional monitoring. The Monitoring Association recognized Vivint as the Monitoring Center of the Year in 2017, and here’s why:

  • The Vivint control center ensures a world-class security experience.
  • The Vivint team of professionals are well trained, professional, and prepared for all emergencies.
  • Vivint uses the highest quality technology at their centers.
  • Vivint demonstrates “exceptional service to both customers and community.”

The teams at Vivint monitoring centers are prepared to respond to medical emergencies, alarms, and attempted break-ins at all hours of the day. You can sleep well knowing that you’re protected. With Vivint SkyControl, you can even utilize the two-way talk feature with the monitoring professionals.

Pros and cons of Vivint home security systems

We’ve looked into the pros and cons of Vivint Smart Home, and here’s what we’ve concluded:

  • Vivint is pricey, but can be affordable, depending on the package and services you choose.
  • Vivint uses high-quality equipment, which is extremely important when dealing with your and your family’s safety.
  • Vivint requires professional installation, which can be frustrating for those who prefer DIY projects, but the positive to using a professional is knowing the installation has been done correctly.
  • 24/7 monitoring is included and requires a monthly fee. Though this is an additional cost, Vivint is one of the few home security companies to use their own in-house team. It helps to know who is actually monitoring your home.
  • Their customer service is reliable. According to some Vivint negative reviews, you might end up waiting a bit to connect with a sales rep, but once you’re connected, they are responsive and helpful.
  • You are no longer required to sign a long-term contract. Most home service companies require a term, but Vivint wants to give you options, so they offer two different payment options:
    • Pay for the security equipment up front and avoid the month-to-month contract and payment for equipment OR choose five-year term and pay for the equipment in monthly installments.
  • Canceling Vivint isn’t ideal. You can’t just cancel at any time if you have a service contract. But if you do decide to cancel, you can transfer the contract to a qualified individual.

Ranked with a B- on Better Business Bureau, Vivint is a well-liked company and the most common feedback from reviewers is that the system is high-quality but pricey, but can you really put a price tag on safety?

According to Jodi of Belleville, IL:

My husband is in the military. We never really know how long he will be out there when he does get deployed—last time it was 6 months. This last time, my husband told me he wanted the security of knowing that his wife and pets would be safe while he was gone. At first I thought the system was going to be more of a nuisance than anything, but after seeing the equipment, I ended up understanding why it was so important to him. He’s told me before that sometimes just hearing my voice is all he needed to keep him going. So we are definitely very excited to be able to use our cameras when he is deployed this time! Now he’ll be able to see my face. It’s like he’s watching over me. Even though we never know how we’re going to spend the next anniversary or holiday, Vivint is easing this burden on us in a big way. This system is definitely bringing us closer together.”

Kim and Sean of Orlando, FL, said,

The experience was absolutely incredible right from opening the front door. It’s unusual to get someone who really wows you in terms of their customer service and our representatives did that from the very beginning.”

Vivint Solar: Save on energy and power your home with solar technology

Not only does Vivint offer home security systems, but they offer affordable Vivint Solar-powered solutions to homeowners and business owners. When you invest in solar technology, you get a 25-year warranty with Vivint, professional installation, and optional professional monitoring from one of their in-house control centers.

Vivint has a team of 4,000 energy experts and currently provides solar solutions to 130,000 customers. Listed as #2 on Solar Power World’s Top 500 Solar Contractors in the North America list, it’s clear that Vivint is changing the way we power our homes.

You can lease, own, or purchase a solar power system. With the Solar Purchase package, for example, you can buy solar panels up-front, avoid monthly payments, and get professional maintenance, if you want it.

The Solar Loan package, in contrast, comes with an affordable monthly payment plan, but once paid, you own the solar panels. The Solar PPA package comes with no upfront costs, but requires monthly payments to Vivint Solar, the owner of the solar panels.

Vivint Internet: Fiber-optic technology

Though highly recognized for their home security systems and solar solutions, Vivint is a high-speed Internet service provider as well. They offer service in just a few states, but in those states, they offer fiber-optic technology. With up to 100 Mbps at $59.99 per month, you can enjoy some of the fastest Internet speeds available. House Method recommends Vivint Smart Home

Although Vivint includes the cost of safety equipment and monthly monitoring, we recommend their smart home security products because they are reliable, efficient, unique, and well made.

We also love that Vivint uses a wireless connection for all of its products and services and includes professional installation. DIY installation and monitoring can be complicated and time-consuming. With a high-quality home security provider, you can rest easily knowing your home is safe and sound.

With Vivint, you can choose the most basic package and add on specific services or products that fit your needs. Not all home security providers offer customizability.

Vivint is also a highly regarded company. They have a team of experienced experts, and they spend a great deal of their time and money giving back to the community. From supporting military families and volunteering throughout the world, Vivint also offers special discounts to families in need. They mean it when they say they want to make your home safer and smarter.

FAQs: Vivint home security services

We’ve gathered some of the most pressing questions on Vivint Smart Home security system:

Is customer service available 24/7?

Yes, Vivint customer service representatives are available all day every day throughout the year, even on holidays. Want to learn about services in your area, specific packages, or new deals? Call 888.841.5276 or use the Live Chat feature on vivint.com

Is the Vivint Smart Home app available, even if I don’t have a smartphone?

Yes, you can download the app through Apple systems and Google Play. However, the app is not yet available on the Microsoft mobile operating system. Instead, you can go to vivint.com and use the website on your browser.

What’s the difference between the Nest Thermostat and the Vivint Element Thermostat?

You can enjoy climate control from anywhere with the Element Thermostat. It can be adjusted by voice activation, mobile control, or through the control panel. If you have a Nest Thermostat, you can connect it to your Vivint control panel and set a schedule for temperature changes and turn the temps up or down when you’re out of the house.

Is a service plan required if I choose a Vivint package?

You need a service plan only if you want to pay for the security equipment in monthly fees. If you can afford to pay for the equipment up front, you don’t have to sign up for a services plan.

How well do the door and window sensors work?

The Vivint sensors work really well … maybe too well. If there’s any sign of motion, you will be notified, which means you might get notified regardless of a potential threat. If a squirrel is near a window, for instance, you might get a notification.

How do I use the Vivint login?

Once you have a Vivint package, you get an account, which is accessible online through the Vivint Online Account Center. Simply sign in with your login and password, then make adjustments to your account, make payments, and add additional services.
