The craft beer industry in the U.S. has been a fast-growing industry for years. It seems like a new brewery is opening every time you look as the industry brought in over $27.6 billion in 2018 alone. But what are the most popular breweries in the U.S.?
We wanted to find out the answer to that question. Our team of researchers pulled the data on every craft brewery in U.S. looking at four factors to determine the most popular: number of Facebook followers, number of Instagram followers, Yelp score, and number of Yelp reviews. After analyzing the data, we found the top 150 most popular breweries in the U.S. as well as the most popular in each state.

The Top 150 Most Popular Breweries in the U.S.
Coming in at the top spot is New Belgium Brewing Co. Founded in 1991 in Colorado, the craft brewing company is now not only nationally distributed, but also one of the largest craft breweries in the country. Two of their signature beers are Fat Tire and the Voodoo Ranger IPA. The second most popular brewery is the Boston Beer Company. The brewery was founded in 1984 and their signature beer is the Samuel Adams lager. In 2012 the company launched Angry Orchard brand, a hard cider.
Rounding out the top five are Goose Island Brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. All three are pioneers of the craft brewery industry, helping grow craft beer not only in their respective states, but throughout the U.S. as well.
While only one brewery could claim the top spot, just being in the top 150 is no small feat. Our study analyzed the data on over 2,200 breweries across the country and the above are the head of the glass.
Most Popular Brewery in Each State
In addition to comparing breweries across the country, we wanted to see which brewery was the most popular in each state. For this portion of the study, we only compared data on breweries within their respective state.

Craft beer is as big as it’s ever been in the U.S. with no real signs of slowing down. Breweries have not only become places to grab a pint, but also to grab some food, hang out with friends, and maybe even bring your family (and dog). Our study found the most popular breweries throughout the U.S. and in each state. These breweries are beloved by many both nationally and regionally and have made significant impacts on the brewing scene. Cheers!
Methodology
Our study analyzed every craft brewery in the U.S. on four factors: number of Facebook followers, number of Instagram followers, number of Yelp reviews, and the average Yelp rating. We compared the data for those factors against the other breweries using a weighted scale with a total potential score of 50. Data collection was provided by Jake Ratliff.
