Art in the Bathroom

By: Kealia Reynolds

Of all the rooms in our home that could use some art, the last place we tend to prioritize is the bathroom. Since the bathroom is one of the smallest spaces in the house, decorating without overcrowding the room can be a challenge, not to mention constant humidity can affect what we actually hang on our walls. Here are 11 ways to add art to your bathroom.

For smaller bathrooms, a statement piece is all you need. We love the retro gold mirror pictured above. Not only does it fill the tight space, it’ll likely be a conversation starter among guests. If you want to make your bathroom seem less bare, position a couple of books or small plants on top of the toilet tank, but be careful about overcrowding—you don’t want items falling into an open toilet.

That shower curtain is a work of art, accentuating the delicate porcelain tub. Not much else needs to be added to this beadboard-paneled, maritime-inspired bathroom. The elegance of these curtains is enough.

Want to go the non-traditional route when adding art in the bathroom? Take a page out of this homeowner’s book and paint a colorful geometric mural on the ceiling. Because art on the ceiling is so much more fun.

If you thought that ceiling was beautiful, just look at these floors. Bold and charming, these floors give these all-white bathrooms a pop of color.

Play with patterns to add more character in your bathroom. Whether that means choosing a stylish wallpaper (we recommend choosing from OLIVIA + POPPY, Flavor Paper, or Calico Wallpaper) or finding a hand-painted, chevron mirror (or both!), patterns are an easy way to add art in the bathroom.

Plates add a playful and delicate flair to your bathroom walls and are a delightfully retro touch. Use glass or porcelain plates that will stand up against humidity.

Don’t feel like you need to cover your walls with artwork. Modern and pristine, this bathroom uses built-in shelving as a functional way of staging art.

If you have a smaller bathroom, position matching, potted plants on a windowsill. This is a quick and simple way to include art in the bathroom, especially if you’re running low on wall space.

For a rustic, farmhouse look, consider adding a large, antique mirror to your bathroom. Not only will it dutifully fill your wall space, it will also marry the smaller, shabby-chic pieces in the room.

If all else fails, find an abstract print that you adore, preferably one that complements the colors in your bathroom. This type of print isn’t too complicated and can always be moved to another room in your house if you feel like it doesn’t look good in your bathroom.
